For her Gold Award project, McGinnis from Broome County, wanted to address the issue that Binghamton was named the most depressing city in the United States. So “BroomeQuest” was born.
“I don’t think that it is depressing and I wanted to show other people that it is a great place to live,” she said.
To do this, McGinnis has left 25 scavenger hunts in parks across Broome County that show off the great things theĀ county has to offer. The clue sheets for each BroomeQuest have local history written by the Broome County Historian and nature notes written by an award winning naturalist. Once individuals complete the 1-2 mile hike they will receive a stamp for their journals that were carved from stamp carvers around New York that represent Broome County activities and history.

Any resident or visitor can go on a BroomeQuest at any time. The parks are free and McGinnis plans on these BroomeQuests being in place for many years.

This is an excellant project, I plan to BROOMEQUEST. Has the Press been notified of this project? It should be publized.
My grandson and I enjoy Broomequest. We will be going to Oak Ridge TN in two weeks. Can you connect us with a “quest” in that area ?
