Building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place

By: Kim Dunne, Media Manager

“Every cookie has a mission – to help girls do great things!”

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 20914 from Whitesboro demonstrated this by donating a gift card to the Freedom Guide Dogs organization using some of they money they earned through the Girl Scout cookie program.

The girls were working on earning their Philanthropist badge this winter and spring. Part of earning the badge was to choose an organization that they wanted to donate to, see what they needed, raise the funds and then make the donation. The girls chose Freedom Guide Dogs, which is a non-profit organization located in Cassville, that breeds, raises, trains and places guide dogs for the blind and visually impaired through Hometown Training.

The girls took $100 of their cookie money and bought a PetSmart gift card to donate to Freedom Guide Dogs. The girls recently went and delivered their donation. They were also able to take a tour of the facility, see how some of the training happens, and meet some of the puppies and working dogs.

Way to go girls! Share your community service activities with us by e-mailing kdunne@gsnypenn.org!
