Yesterday’s photo was of girls from the Newark service unit, marching in the local Veteran’s day parade. There were a total of 32 girls that participated in this Veteran’s Day Parade, which is about half of all the current Girl Scouts in the village. The parade was organized by the VFW. There were also guest speakers and the local high school band also participated in the parade.
Service Unit Manager, Christina Hinks, said, “The girls enjoyed the wonderful weather and proudly showed off their uniforms.” In recent years’ overall participation in the parade had been low. But this year village residents began to see a turnaround. Christina believes that, “our presence in this parade really proved that Girl Scouts are gaining strength in Newark.”
The Newark service unit troops are also currently doing some community service. One troop had a book drive in honor of Juliette Lowe’s Birthday that will be donated to Green Angels. The girls decided this after thinking about doing a gift exchange. It was suggested that instead of exchanging books, the troop donate to those that are in need. Another troop is having a toy drive and donating to Golisano Children’s Hospital.
