In just a few weeks spring will be here (so the calendar says) and so will Girl Scout week. Girl Scout week is celebrated each year in March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath, and always includes the Girl Scout birthday of March 12th. This year Girl Scout week will be March 10th-March 16th.
Girl Scout week offers girls the opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout, to explore and learn about other faiths, to commemorate the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 members, and to show the community that they are Girl Scouts and what activities they do in Girl Scouting. It offers us a chance to raise awareness of Girl Scouting, and its benefits to girls, in all of our communities.
Some ideas for activities during Girl Scout week include hosting a Girl Scout Birthday party, choosing a different theme for each day of the week and doing activities related to the themes, for example Monday could be show your green day when every girl wears green to school, or learning Girl Scout songs or games from a different time period.
You can find lots of ideas for activities or ways to mark Girl Scout week on the Girl Scout website. Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways also has flyers available that can be shared with local religious congregations to help promote Girl Scout Sunday and Girl Scout Sabbath.
