With Girl Scout Week approaching, are you looking for ideas for what you could do with the girls in your troop to mark the occasion? Well, Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways has the Honoring Our Heritage Patch program!
The Honoring Our Heritage Patch program is an opportunity to learn about both the history of Girl Scouting in the United States and the history of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Council. There is a treasure chest full of activities and a leader notebook to help facilitate the activities. Treasure chests are available for loan at all of the service centers. Inside you will find games, books, photos, and vintage uniforms, among other things.
Girls can earn the Honoring Our Heritage patch for completing a set number of requirements based on their grade level. Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts complete 4 requirements, while Juniors complete 6 and all grade levels above Juniors complete 8. Girls have to complete at least one requirement from each of the Discover, Connect, and Take Action activities. Activities topics include awards, special Girl Scout days, fashion show, Juliette’s pastimes, and history and archives.
If you would like to learn more about the Honoring Our Heritage patch or borrow one of the treasure chests you can check out the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways website, at www.gsnypenn.org, or contact a community development manager at the service center closest to you.
