As we near the beginning of summer many service units are planning and holding service unit encampments at various properties around Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways jurisdiction. An encampment is an opportunity to have a safe, fun, and educational overnight experience for three or more troops.
Each service unit that wants to hold an encampment has to appoint a volunteer encampment director. This person takes on the role of camp director for the event. The encampment director is required to take training which provides information on GSUSA safety checkpoints, New York State department of health information, and American Camp Association information. The encampment director must have completed Simply Successful Overnights and Simply Successful Camping and have experience planning and implementing outdoor experiences for girls.
Encampment directors are required to take the training course every three years.
