Growing up, one of my favorite subjects in school was science. I loved doing experiments and learning new things. We’re offering girls that opportunity at two programs being held on September 28 at the St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Ithaca.
- The Home Scientist program is open to girls in grades 2 and 3. You don’t have to be grown-up to be a scientist! You’re a scientist every time you do an experiment. By paying careful attention during experiments, scientists learn new things – even if they’ve done the test before. While earning your Home Scientist badge, you will perform your own science experiments. You will gain essential skills such as working with others, following directions, and having fun with science! The program takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- The Science of Happiness program is open to girls in grades 6-8. As you earn the Science of Happiness badge you are the test subject and your life is your laboratory. Find out how scientists measure happiness and put the results into action. Perform a happiness experiment on your friends or family – all with the goal of making your world a happier place. Learn to take the time to stop, breathe, and learn about happiness in your life. Through conversations, experiments, arts and crafts, learn to appreciate what makes you happy. Spend the day using “science” to measure happiness. The program takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Both programs are also open to non-Girl Scouts, so bring your friends! The cost to attend for registered Girl Scouts is $5. Non-registered Girl Scouts need to pay the $15 Girl Scout registration fee to attend. Financial assistance is available.
