With the unveiling of the new Imagine your STEM future you might be thinking about different science, technology, engineering, and math activities that you can do with the girls in your Girl Scout troop. Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways can offer many suggestions for activities that fit into STEM. Our pinterest page has a board dedicated to STEM ideas and projects.
One such project involves teaching girls about meteoites using candy bars. NASA developed the lesson plan, called Edible Rocks, which uses candy bars to show different types of meteorites. The lesson uses six types of candy bars, including rice cereal treats, peanut brittle, rocky road, chocolate bars, 3 musketeers, and chocolate brownies to make meteoirtes. girls then use geologic terms to describe each one.
And, when the girls are all done learning about the meteorites, they of course, can eat them!
The directions for this and lots of other STEM activities can be found here.
