Looking for some STEM program events that you can take the girls in your troop to Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways has some great ones planned. Here are three:
Entertainment Technology Badge Night –Wednesday, September 18, 2013, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., St. Paul’s Church, 551 Sayles St. , Oneida, NY, 13421, (Madison County), Open to Girl Scouts in grades 4–5 Have fun while learning about entertainment technology! Make your own thaumatrope [Hint: Thaumatropes are really cool!], go on a interactive site, do a catapult activity, make 3D glasses, and make elephant ears to wear on a hike and hear changes in sound! You will earn the Entertainment Technology Badge.
Home Scientist, Ithaca — Saturday, September 28, 2013, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 302 St. Catherines Circle, Ithaca, NY, 14850, (Tompkins County), Open to Girl Scouts in grades 2–3 and non-registered girls, You don’t have to be a grown-up to be a scientist. You’re a scientist every time you do an experiment! By paying careful attention during experiments, scientists learn new things — even if they’ve done the test before. While earning your Home Scientist badge, you will perform your won science experiments. You will gain essential skills such as working with others, following directions, and having fun with science! Spend the day doing your own science experiments. Please bring your own lunch; we’ll provide a snack.
Mad Scientist Training — Saturday, September 28, 2013, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier, 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, NY (Broome County), Open to Girl Scouts in grades 2–3
They’re mad about science at the Discovery Center! Earn your Home Scientist badge with fun, fizzy, slimy, homemade science experiments. Play with static electricity, experience the power of carbon dioxide, and make a big mess as you learn some key science concepts.
