Three Things for Thursday

fall

It’s hot again outside. Where I am anyway. I do love summertime and everything that comes along with it – beaches, sun, sand, warm weather, roasting marshmallows while camping. But I’m looking forward to fall too. And, it’s just around the corner now. The past few weeks of regional meetings, fall product sale training, and working with service unit volunteers to plan fall recruitment events are clear indciators that fall is coming soon. So, here are three program events taking place this fall that the girls in your troop might be interested in participating in.

Autumn Leaves – Saturday, September 21, 2013, 10 a.m. to noon , Mendon Ponds Park, 95 Douglas Road, Honeoye Falls, NY, 14472, (Monroe County). Open to Girl Scouts in grades K–8 and non-registered girls. Celebrate the first day of Autumn with a woodland walk in Mendon Ponds Park! Along the way learn how to identify common forest trees and examine the seasonal process of deciduous fall color. Discover the many ways native wildlife use trees for shelter, food, and homes. Create fun leaf art projects to take home!

Fall Foliage Trail Ride – Sunday, October 13, 2013, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Painted Bar Stables, 4093 Lake Avenue, Route 79, Burdette, NY, 14818, (Schuyler County). Open to Girl Scouts in grades 2–12 and adults Enjoy a one-hour trail ride through woodlands and fields. Take in the cool crisp air and beautiful leaves of fall, maybe even see some wildlife! Girls must be at least eight-years-old to participate; if there are girls under 14-years old in the group, an adult must accompany the group on the trail.

Halloween Spooktacular, Junior and Cadette – Saturday, October 26, 2013, noon to 2 p.m., Roberson Museum and Science Center, 30 Front Street, Binghamton, NY, 13905, (Broome County). Open to Girl Scouts in grades 4–8 Is Roberson Mansion haunted? Take the “haunted” mansion tour and hear accounts of actual events that have taken place in the mansion. Do a Halloween art activity, visit the Mad Scientist’s lab, and watch a special planetarium show. A Halloween fun patch is included in the program fee.
