Have you ever wondered what it was like to dine based on affluence? Girls in grades 4-12 can attend a hunger banquet in Hornell and find out! Girl Scouts can even bring their non-Girl Scout friends to the event.
During the program girls will learn about the unequal distribution of food among the world’s population. When you arrive, you’ll draw a colored ticket to determine your socioeconomic status for the evening. That status determines what you eat and where you sit for the evening. Guest speakers will then share stories about and address the issues of hunger and food distribution.
We have held several hunger banquet programs throughout our council and those that attend say they have been truly impacted by the stories and learning about those less fortunate then themselves.
The Hornell Hunger Banquet is taking place Friday, November 1 from 6-8 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church, Main Street at Center Street. The cost to attend is $5 per participant. In order for non-registered Girl Scouts to participate, they would need to pay the $15 Girl Scout registration fee in addition to the program fee. The deadline to register for this great program is at midnight tonight so don’t wait! Click here to register on our online registration site.
