Girl Scout Cookies!

By: Kim Dunne, Media Manager

Sized_Cookies_ThinmintsI get so excited this time of year! It is almost time for the Girl Scout Cookie Program!

I’m not just excited about the return of Girl Scout cookies, but I’m excited to be able to tell the communities the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways serves about what the Girl Scout Cookie Program does for girls. It’s not just about eating the delicious cookies, but teaching our girls those 5 important life skills. Think of what the girls are learning. Without Girl Scouts, how would they learn to set and achieve goals, make their own decisions, handle money, interact with people, and be ethical? Girl Scouts’ gives girls an advantage as they prepare to enter the workforce.

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend also returns this year! On Feb. 7 and 8 we will be pushing out the 5 skills and really telling every community nationwide about the benefits of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. It is the largest girl-led business in the country – how cool is that? We need to let the community know! During that week, myself, other staff members, volunteers, and girls will be taking to the airwaves on local radio and TV stations to talk about the cookie program.

We also have some exciting contests coming to our social media channels for the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Stay tuned for details on those!

Do you have great cookie stories to share? We want to hear from you! E-mail kdunne@gsnypenn.org.

  1. Hello, I think I have hit the 36 Year Mark for Membership in the GSUSA! Although I do not remember selling cookies as a kid because then in the ’50s and ’60s the Community Chest somehow supported us…
(Oh, we went to weekend camping ..and as Senior Girl Scouts went to the World’s Fair in NY
City..in ’64… we sold light bulbs door to door.. my Dad worked for GE and helped us supplement our finances!)

I believe in the Cookie Concept!!
It is true we must make plans for our future!
We, as a Troop, must create Goals.. to pay for ..learning …
What do we want to learn about beyond our local environment?
    What will that experience cost?
“We adults in Girl Scouting must accept the challenges that provide opportunities these girls can find nowhere else!”
