Local and Global Action

i cant waitStatistics say that nearly 1.6million people in the United States are considered homeless, use transitional housing, or shelters. 1/3 of those people are members of households with children.

Girl Scouts of all age levels can earn the Girl Scouts Global Action awards. These awards have activities that focus on ways girls can help to end extreme poverty and address other critical world issues.

Coming soon, Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways is offering a program event opportunity for girls in grades 4-12 to learn more about youth homelessness.

The Youth Homeless Experience is taking place Friday, May 9th at 5pm through Saturday, May 10 at 10am in Auburn, NY. The event will be held at  Casey Park Ice Arena, 150 North Division Street,  Auburn, NY, 13021. (Cayuga County). At the event, girls and boys in fourth to seventh grade from scouts and other local youth groups will build their own shelter for the night. They will learn about hunger and homelessness in Cayuga County from those involved in agencies and organizations which support people in these situations. Local community leaders will speak about homelessness and hunger and participants will complete activities focusing around the issues. Youth will participate in an Oxfam Hunger Banquet breakfast. Trusted and trained adult volunteer leaders will participate in the activities and provide supervision for the evening.

If girls in your troop are interested in participating visit the council website at www.gsnypenn.org for details on how to register.
