After a long, harsh winter, the girls in my Cadette troop are anxious to get outside to do activities. Being stuck inside for so long, having meetings canceled due to inclement weather is not fun. They are starting to ask questions like, “When are we going camping?”
At the start of the year, that is the first thing girls always say they want to do – camping. When I gave them the option of two different weekends, they wanted to do both of course! Since the time they were Brownies, this does not surprise me.
So far, they have been to Yaiewano, Misty Hollow, Hoover, Comstock and Amahami. We have not made it yet to Trefoil because it is several hours away from us.
There are so many beautiful properties we have available for use. Who can pass up s’mores around a campfire or hiking the Beary Trail at Misty Hollow? Another favorite was hiking to the Fire Tower at Amahami and peeking in the Page Pond Hill building. Memories like this you can’t replace. I also remember at Misty Hollow on one trip alone seeing an owl, a bear in the far far distance, a raccoon mimicking me combing my hair and a fawn. Wow! How cool is that?!
Even if you are not a fan of camping, I still encourage a hike on the many trails in the areas around us, walk to get an ice cream. Get outside and make some memories!
