Let’s meet five more of our Class of 2014 Gold Awardees!
Della is a 2013 graduate of C.W. Baker High School. For her take action project she worked with local senior centers to plan and implement “Senior Proms;” dances and singalongs for the residents. She brought together younger and older generations and has recruited her school key club to continue the program into the future.
Erika is from Vestal and a senior at Vestal High School. For her Gold Award Take Action project she worked with the Animal Care Council to address the need of black cat adoptions. The animal shelters are overfilled with black cats that never get adopted. Through her project she raised awareness of this problem by attending adoption events and educating the attendees about the need.
Allison is from Wellsboro, PA and a senior at Wellsboro High School. She will be attending St. John Fisher College in Rochester in the fall. For her take action project Allison worked with the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health. She created a volunteer opportunities webpage for teens in the area to have a place where they can access endless volunteer options. Several hundred people have already visited the page.
Claire is from Victor and a junior at Victor High School. For her project she worked with both the town and village of Victor labeling storm drains. She also educated homeowners, children and businesses about the effects of water pollution.
Grace is from Victor and a senior at Victor Senior High School. She plans to attend college and study forensic accounting. For her take action project she led a team of community citizens in building a foot bridge at her town’s Bluebird Haven Park as well as improving the trail markers at the park. The bridge has allowed those who hike the park to pass through what was once a muddy impassable area.
