Is your troop meeting over the summer? Are you looking for fun, quick, unusual activities to do with the girls in your troop over the hot, summer, months? In Girl Scouting, one thing often heard, from both new and experienced volunteers, is that they are always looking for fun ideas on activities to do with the girls in their troops. Here is one that is simple, inexpensive, and can be customized to individual girls and adults.
Homemade ice cream – in a bag.
It only takes a handful of ingredients and about 5-10minutes of time, and the end result is a creamy, delicious serving of soft-serve ice cream. The hardest part of making this is keeping your hands from getting frostbite while shaking the bag for 5 minutes. You might suggest mittens or gloves for little hands, otherwise troop leaders will be shaking bags for every girl in the troop!
You could even make a game out of the shaking part – divide girls into teams of two and have them throw their bags back and forth to each other for the 5 minutes. See who throws the bags the most times.
Give this a try. Girl and adults will enjoy it.
Combine 2Tbsp sugar, 1cup half and half, and 1/2tsp vanilla extract in a quart-size ziploc bag and seal it tightly. Place 1/2 cup coarse salt (table salt is fine) in a gallon-size bag, then fill it halfway with ice cubes. Place the sealed smaller bag inside as well, and seal the larger bag. Shake bags for about 5 minutes. To customize – add chocolate syrup or pureed strawberries.
What is one of the easiest activities you’ve done with the girls in your troop?
