Do the girls in your troop love the outdoors? Get them outside and exploring. A great activity for girls to learn about in the outdoors is geocaching. Geocaching provides participants a chance to be an explorer and a detective. You get to search for treasures, called ‘caches’, all while going on an outdoor adventure.
Junior Girl Scouts can even earn the geocaching badge.
You’ll want to plan for your outing ahead of time and learn about how to use a GPS for finding those treasures. Then get out there and start searching.
One of our volunteers, and Girl Scouts, from Wayne County, were recently featured in a Finger Lakes Times newspaper article about geocaching. They began their love of the activity in Girl Scouts! And, they have definitely caught the geocaching bug! Check out the article here.
Then visit the council website at http://www.gsnypenn.org to find outdoor program opportunities for girls, as well as safety activity checkpoints for the activities being planned.
