Celebrate Girl Scout Week Like A G.I.R.L.

Celebrate Girl Scout Week Like A G.I.R.L.

It’s great to be a Girl Scout! To celebrate being a part of this amazing and empowering organization, Girl Scouts get a whole week to be recognized on a national scale!

Girl Scout Week starts this Sunday, March 12 and runs through Saturday March 18.

In the past, troops and service units have come up with their own activities or used activities from other councils to participate. This year, Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways has taken the lead on some simple, easy to accomplish activities for each day during Girl Scout Week!

We’d love for our troops and individual scouts to post pictures or videos to social media using the hashtags #NYPENNGSW17 and #GirlScoutWeek, so that we can see the wonderful things you are doing to celebrate – from singing your favorite camp songs at the top of your lungs, to hosting a bash for the Girl Scout’s 105th birthday (who doesn’t love an excuse to eat cake?)!

GS Week PatchEveryone who posts using these hashtags will be entered into a raffle for the Girl Scout Week fun patch. We’ll award patches to three individuals. One grand prize winner will win patches for her whole troop! These colorful patches are also available for purchase in all boutiques for those who participate in any or all of the Girl Scout Week activities described.

The Girl Scout Week webpage also includes a printable version of daily activities and the Girl Scout Sunday flyer.

Thanks for all that YOU do to make being in Girl Scouts the best experience ever! Have fun celebrating Girl Scout Week 2017!

Troop Tuesday: A Lost Story of Christmas Giving

We received so many stories of good will over the holidays that one actually got lost in our inbox! We wanted to make sure to tell everyone about Brownie Troop 40514.

They took time over the holidays to deliver thank you baskets on Christmas Eve to local police and fire stations, as well as Hospitals in Broome and Tioga County.

Girl Scout Giving Never Goes on Holiday

How did you spend your time over the holiday break? Susan Donahue writes to tell us about what 1 of her Daisies and 2 of her Brownies decided to do over the holidays:

“This is a photo of 3 of my girls from Raquette Valley Service Unit 501 from Norwood/Norfolk troop 60351. These girls delivered donations to our local animal shelter over Christmas break as part of a badge they were working on.”

Great job girls!

Troop Tuesday: Joining Forces for Good

Troop Tuesday: Joining Forces for Good

Girl Scout Troop 20495 and 20619 of Mohawk joined forces for good while going for their Silver Award.

“The girls helped out at the Herkimer Humane Society by doing dishes, laundry, having a Furry Fashion Show at the Mutt Strut and painting two rooms at the Humane Society,” Troop Leader Karla Knapp told us. “The girls learned a lot while working on their award.”

She says even after the girls earned their award, they are continuing to go back to help out once a month.

Troop Tuesday: Spreading Holiday Cheer

Troop Tuesday: Spreading Holiday Cheer

The month of December is a wonderful time to let the spirit of giving thrive. Close to 90 girls went out to sing holiday carols at the Maple Downs Senior Home in Fayetteville this month. These Girl Scouts were all a part of the Fayetteville-Manlius Service Unit 139.

Looking to spread some holiday cheer this season? Here’s a few ideas to get you started.

3 Things for Thursday: Here’s How We Give Back

3 Things for Thursday: Here’s How We Give Back

The holiday seasons is often considered the season of giving. So, we’ve prepared a list of things with that theme in mind.

  1. Serve a meal to the homeless: It’s our last event before 2017, and in typical Girl Scout fashion it’s about helping others. The rescue mission at 155 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY is looking for volunteers to serve a meal to those without on December 21.

This evening will no doubt be an eye-opening experience for the girls. Girls will receive a certificate of completion for their service. Girls ages 12-15 must have an adult attend with them. Girls age 16 & up, may attend without an adult.

To register for this Program, Email Mary Bodner at Mary.Bodner@RMSyr.org

  1. Share your story of giving with us: We’ve already heard about so many acts of kindness throughout the month of December from caroling to making bagged meals, but we’re always looking to hear more. Tell us what you and/or your troop have been up to over the holidays and beyond by sharing your story.

We know Girl Scouts do so much within their community, let us share it with everyone. Email nshoemaker@gsnypenn.org.

  1. Give to the Girl Scouts: Girl Scouts do so much within their communities: they build them up, they honor those who risked their lives for us, and they continue to make our towns better in unseen ways. They give their time and earnings from cookies sold to do these wonderful things, which is why we’re asking you to consider giving back to these wonderful girls, so they can continue these projects.

There are two ways you can help: Volunteer or make a donation.
